Medicaid Rules

  • Pick one doctor or clinic to see when your child needs care. Pick one main dentist.
  • Be sure your child’s main doctor and any specialists you see are the only doctors that give you prescriptions.
  • Try to use one drug store at one location to get all of your child’s medicine.
  • Do not get the same type of medicine from different doctors.
  • Do not use the emergency room if you don’t have an emergency.
  • Do not let anyone else use your child’s Your Texas Benefits Medicaid card.
  • If your child has a doctor visit and you can’t make it, call the doctor’s office to cancel. Then set up a new visit.
  • Tell us about changes to your case within 10 days of the change. When you have a change, call 2-1-1 or 1-877-541-7905 or use the  “View my case” feature on the YourTexasBenefits.com website. Tell us about changes in things such as:
